Swin Workout

2016/7/15 11:59:33

Question
Hello there,
I am a 23 year old female, who can only swim about 4 times a week.  I do
basically the same workout each time:  500 warm up, 12x100 (I swim each at
about 1:15, and use a 1:45 interval), 10x50 freestyle kick with fins (10 sec
rests), 6 x 50 alternating backstroke and breaststroke, 4x100 IMs, then
200-500 warm down.

Is this a fairly varied workout?   Is it a bad thing to do the same workout each
time?
I swam competitively for years a while ago, but I just want to make sure I am
making the most out of the little time that I get each week to swim.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks,
Allison

Answer
Allison-
What you are doing is basically fine.  But it may get a little repetitive and boring if you do the same thing each day.
The distance you are doing isn't too bad.  What you could do is vary the distances a little, 6x200 instead of 12x100, or change the strokes or kicks you do.
If you swam competitively a few years ago, try to remember some of the drills your coach had you do and incorporate the ones you liked into your workout.
Hope this helps,
George
