Swimming: Broaden shoulders

2016/7/15 12:00:03

Question
Hi

I'm 16 this year and I'm very interested in swimming. However, i'm not sure of which type of swim that will enhance the shoulder muscle, as in makes the shoulder broader.

By the way, sorry for my poor English. =X

Thanks,
D.S

Answer
D.S.,
This is a very good question.  Unfortunately there is not one specific stroke that is going to broaden your shoulders overnight.  Swimming is a sport where you need to cross train in all of the strokes.  The sport in general will help you develop your shoulders, but it's going to take time.  It will take at least a year or so of keeping with it.

I would suggest that you just continue swimming.  Freestyle is the most common stroke.  It will help you develop your shoulders well.  The key is repetition.  Keep up with your workouts and you will see progress.

I do want to say one thing.  Don't swim to transform your body.  Swim because you want to be healthy or because you enjoy it.  :-)  You should enjoy what you do.  Swimming may help develop your shoulders, but it's not going to be something that happens immediately.

Please let me know if this helps out.
Eric
