Choke Holds

Question
My problem is simple, I joined wrestling and sometimes I get caught in a choke hold. What I usually do is I put my chin down so that he cannot choke me out, but sometimes my opponent is stronger than me is able to get past my chin and choke me out. My question is whether or not there is a way to get out of a choke hold other than the chin down strategy or what is the best way to preventing the person to getting a choke hold on me.

Answer
well this is a little more complicated than you think. yes, putting your chin down will help. but there are some other factors that you have to consider. i have a feeling that the choke hold isn't the only thing you're struggling with. if its just his arm then that's pretty easy to defend against. and i know its going to sound like i'm joking with you but just take his arm off or don't let him put it around your throat. but like i said before i think its a little more complicated. if you're being held to the mat and getting choked then we've isolated the problem. freeing yourself from the mat. once you can free yourself from the being held down or tied up then you can remove or prevent the choke from happening. so, i know this goes against your instincts which are to ensure that you continue breathing, but when you're being choked try to think of what is keeping you from getting up other then the choke. if you can keep your opponent from doing that or any of the several things that he might do, then the he won't be able to choke you, or at least it will be easier to prevent or defend against it. good luck!
