collegiate wrestling

Question
hey i was wandering this for some time and i finally get a chance to ask. why doesn't Texas University (Austin) have a wrestling team ? if they did maybe i might change my mind about attending a division 2 school like upper iowa univeristy. (God Bless !)

Answer
i have just recently begun to wonder that myself.  with such a large population and so many big cities;  austin, houston, dallas, san antonio and such an affinity for contact sports like football, why is wrestling not bigger in that state.  i know that there are a small number of high schools, public and private, that participate but i don't think its state wide.
but to get back to your question.  i guess since its not bigger in the state at the younger levels elementary and high school.  then there isn't much need for it at the college level. and with title IX with out the popularity and activism there was no reason to keep, save or try to create wrestling teams at the university of texas austin, or anywhere else in texas for that matter.
i would love to see wrestling begin to grow in texas. i think there is nothing but potential there and that the results could be fantastic if knowledge of the sport begins to gain more and more acceptance.
