Effective Takedown Defense for Shorter Grapplers: Strategies & Techniques
Question
I know how to sprawl and I'm good at that but that dosen't work half of the time. I'm short and stocky so what should I do to defend take-downs more efficently
Answer
Theres a difference between passive and active sprawling. When you sprawl, you dont just lay there and wait for your opponent to adjust and take you down. You have to work on his head, his arms, keep your hips heavy, grab ankles.
If sprawling doesn't work for you, you might want to try a 3/4 nelson. Ask your coach if you don't know what that is. Since your short and stocky you should have no problem defending shots. Specially since it is hard to take you down since you have a great center of gravity.
