It does not matter who you are or what age you are, everyone must have their own life jacket when in a boat. It is the main safety device requirement.

Life jackets are also referred to as life vest, life preserver or personal flotation device. This is used to assist a person either unconscious or conscious to his/her face above the water's surface. Life vests are available in different sizes and designs different levels of protection. These are used in swimming pools, air-planes, boats, yachts, large ships and they are easily available for the civilians or the crew members. Life vests are available in a variety of designs. This ensures that they provide complete protection to you while you carry on your water and boating activities.

It is equally important to wear a life jacket while participating in adventure water sports such as white water rafting. The life jackets are buoyant in nature, which means, they float in water without any action from the wearer.

Boaters use PDF's mostly for crafts such as speed boats, wet biking, water skiing, canoeing, sailing..Etc. They are sold in many colors but the best colors to buy are red, orange or yellow. These colors are better because you are found faster in the water by rescuers.

Life jackets are usually made of tough synthetic fiber covering a source that provides buoyancy such as a chamber or air or foam. These jackets are available in bright colors such as yellow or orange, which help rescue personnel easily spot them in case of emergencies.

Here are some life jacket tips: Life jackets must fit snuggly and according to a person's weight. All of the straps are adjustable.

Each year, you need to inspect the life jackets for rips/tears and worn out areas.

Give all the straps a tug to make sure they are all still sturdy. Also never use a life jacket to kneel on in a boat. It can change the fit, comfort and how well it floats.
