A Brief History of Towels: Origins and Evolution
Towels have been around for thousands of years, so it's not possible to say who specifically invented them. Towels were first used by ancient Greek and Roman cultures. The earliest towels were similar to our bath towels and consisted of a rectangular piece of soft, absorbent cloth. These towels were used for drying off after bathing and were made of linen or cotton. Over time, the design and use of towels spread to other cultures and evolved to include different shapes, sizes, and materials.
