Swimming Pool Oil Contamination: Causes & Prevention

There are several ways that oil can get into a swimming pool:

1. Bathers: Swimmers and bathers can bring in oil from their skin and hair, especially if they have used sunscreen, lotions, or other oil-based products.

2. Pool deck: If the pool deck is not properly cleaned, oil from dirt, dust, and other debris can be washed into the pool.

3. Pool equipment: Pool equipment, such as pumps and filters, can leak oil into the water if they are not properly maintained.

4. Chemicals: Some pool chemicals, such as chlorine, can react with organic matter in the water to form oil-like substances.

5. Runoff: Oil from nearby roads and parking lots can be carried into the pool by stormwater runoff.

6. Evaporation: Oil can also evaporate from nearby surfaces and condense on the pool water.
