DE Filter & Pool Cover: Why You Shouldn't Run It Covered

DE (diatomaceous earth) filters are one of the most effective types of pool filters available. They use a fine powder made from the fossilized remains of tiny algae to trap dirt and debris from the pool water.

Running a DE filter with a pool cover on will block the airflow needed for the DE to properly circulate and work correctly. Additionally, it could damage the filter and void the warranty.

To use a DE filter, the pool cover must be removed, and the filter must be properly backwashed and rinsed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
