Great Summer Activities for Animal Loving Children

This article will give you a few ideas about animal-focused summer activities to consider.

Marine Biology Camps

If your child loves every creature that swims in the ocean, then you might want to look into marine biology camps in your area. There are many camps like this available around the country, and they give your child a great chance to study animals that they may not be able to interact with in their normal, day-to-day lives. It's easy for an animal-loving child to be able to interact with dogs, cats, and other common pets on a daily basis; whales, dolphins, and sea lions are another matter altogether.

These camps will actually put your children out on the ocean, where they have the opportunity to spot marine animals in their natural habitat and learn to identify the various species. They may also have the opportunity to go to an aquarium or other facility, where they can get some more hands-on interaction with various kinds of marine life. For those kids who love marine animals, this is an incredible opportunity that they will never forget.

Humane Societies and Animal Shelters

Humane societies and local animal shelters are always looking for volunteers to help care for the animals in their shelters. Check with your local shelter to see what rules and limitations they have for their volunteers first, as some may have restrictions on how old kids have to be to work there. If your child is old enough, you can sign her up to work at the shelter for the summer.

Many sheltersrequire volunteers to attend a training course, but once this is complete, your child will be able to work directly with cats, dogs, and other common household pets in need. Volunteers attend to the animals' daily care, as well as play with them to help socialize the animals and prepare them for their future homes. This is a great activity for kids who have an interest in working with animals as a career, and volunteer work is always a great way to build character.

Horse Camps

If your child has a passion specifically for horses, then consider enroll horse camp enrollment during the summer. Some of these camps are only for a few hours a day, while others are week-long sleep-away camps. These give campers the opportunity to interact with other kids in their age group who also have a passion for horses.

Campers will be able to ride and work with horses every single day, and learn valuable skills to make them better riders. For a child who loves our equine friends, there is no better way to spend a summer.

As a parent, you should do everything in your power to nurture your child's passions, including a passion for animals. So turn your child's summer into one that he will always remember by enrollment in marine biology camps, volunteering at animal shelters, or attending a local horse camp. Your child is sure to thank you for it.
