Common Reasons for Failing a Hunter Safety Course - And How to Avoid Them

* Failing the written test. The written test covers topics such as gun safety, hunting laws, and ethics. To pass, you must score at least 70%.

* Failing the shooting test. The shooting test consists of firing a specified number of shots at a target. To pass, you must hit a certain percentage of the targets.

* Violating any of the safety rules. During the course, you will be expected to follow all of the safety rules. If you violate any of the rules, you may be dismissed from the course and will not be eligible to receive a hunting license.

Some states also require students to pass a field day in addition to the written and shooting tests. The field day typically involves demonstrating your ability to safely handle a firearm in a hunting situation.
