Minor League Ice Dimensions

2016/7/16 9:37:45

Question
We went to a minor league hockey game the other night and I could swear the dimensions were significantly smaller than in the NHL but my family disagrees and says they're the same. What are the dimensions for AAA hockey? Or specifically Ontario, California's Citizen's Bank Arena?

Answer
Well, it was hard to find information on their web site about the size of their sheet.
But with a little poking around, I was able to find their administrative office at (909) 244-5500
So I called them and asked them about their sheet size.  They tell me that it is NHL regulation which is 200ft X 85ft.

Most youth hockey rinks within the United States are also NHL regulation size. Rinks in Europe use Olympic size regulation sheets which are 100ft x 200ft.  Some rinks in Mexico use NHL size, but the majority in Mexico are 1/4 to 1/2 sheets. 50ft x 100ft.  Something that you would find at the center of a Mall.

You generally don't see hockey being played within a Mall here in the United States due to concerns that some kid might launch a puck in the air and hit someone in the head.  Where as in Mexico, you better keep you eye on the puck!

Hope this answered your question.
