Identifying & Valuing Vintage Harry Hobson Fishing Rods - Expert Advice

Question
QUESTION: I have an old rod made by Harry Hobson of Lyons, Oregon.

Is it valuable and was Harry Hobson a known person who

made rods.

Thank you,
Kim Reed

ANSWER: Kim,

I am not familiar with this rod. Can you tell me the material - bamboo, steel, fiberglass, and the type of rod - fly rod, spinning, bait casting. If its a flyrod, does it have the original bag, storage tube etc.

If your not sure you can send photos.

QUESTION: It is bamboo and it is a fly rod. I have the holder which
is not a case, but a solid piece of wood with slots that
each piece sits in.
I could get pictures if I have to. I understand Harry
Hobson lived in Lyons/Mill City, Oregon.

Thank you,
Kim

I am going to recommend this site, since its a bamboo fly rod:

your best bet is to sign up, then post a question on value with photos of the various parts of the rod.

There are some threads about him making rods in the 1930s. I believe your rod is collectible, its value will depend on its condition. Rod value goes down rapidly with condition. Also, most of the good quality rods had two tips.

If you have difficulty, email me photos and I will do additional research. Photos should be of the handle, any markings, and of the various areas of the rod to show condition.
