Pigeon Toes and Front Stroke

Question
Hello,
My boyfriend is training for a tri and he's never competitively swam before, so we're trying to get his form right. It all looks good except for his legs and feet, he's a bit pigeon toed so his heels always want to stick out big time and there's a large triangle gap inbetween his shins.

I'm wondering if this will effect his swimming capabilities? He seems fine with the breast stroke, but he gets VERY tired when doing the front crawl because he says he goes the same speed even when he doesn't kick, so basically his legs are dead weight.

I've tried to get in the water and show him proper form, first by showing him then helping him with the form, but his legs keep going far apart past the knees.

Do you know if this swimming problem would be related to his feet? or possibly wrong techniques?

Answer
Usually that is the issue when they are not kicking. Kicking is key when you are swimming. Try having him do it in beats and keep his stroke aligned with it. Having him breath every 3 strokes and kick while he is doing it. It will help him. Also, do training with a kickboard to help him. It will help him a ton! good luck!
