lung capacity

Question
do swimmers tend to have a huge lung capacity or a small one?.. also why is it important for a swimmer to have this size?

Answer
I do not know the exact physiology regarding lung capacity of swimmers. Most competitive swimmers do have an increased lung capacity from years of practice.

It would be important for this development in order to take fewer breathes and speed up the stroke for a competitive edge.
