Mental strategies

Question
I need advice on the mental aspect of competing or training. Also since you use to compete and a swimming coach what can I do as far as cardio (swimming) what routines?

Adam

Answer
Adam--
What part of the mental game are you looking for advice for?
What I can start with is, swimming is tough and training can be painful.  You need to keep your mind tough and occasionally push yourself to complete muscle failure(this also helps with the cardio aspect).  Keep it fun also, otherwise you can get burned out on training and competition.  Another way to work on cardio fitness is to do sets that include long swims with short rest between swims and sprints with short rest.
Hope this helps,
George
