Forgetting how to swim

2016/7/15 12:00:31

Question
I haven磘 been swimming for the past 14 years. Prior to that I had been swimming constantly for 6 years and I was very good. I am now 26, and considering to start swimming again. Is it possible that I have forgotten how to swim? And if so, is it possible to learn again?

Answer
Sandra--
It's not likely that you have forgotten how to swim.  Given that a lot of swimming is muscle memory and it's been 14 years, your muscles have probably forgotten the finer points of technique, but the basics will still be there.
Be patient when you start and lay off the butterfly right away to avoid injury.  Freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke should come right back to you.
Good Luck
