swimming and weight loss

Question
i've just started learning how to swim (at the age of 25!) in order to feel fitter and lose some weight. I'm really enjoying it and I go swimming 4 or 5 times a week now. Can you tell me, will it make a difference to how much weight I lose if i swim early in the morning before work or in the evening after work? what's best in order to lose weight or does it not make a difference? Also, which stroke burns up the most calories? thanks for your help! tammy.

Answer
Tammy-
Swimming is great for cardiovascular fitness, but is not the best for losing weight.  The reason for this is that if you're burning calories, but you're not burning fat because fat is lighter than water and helps you float, which makes swimming easier, therefore you have to work even harder to burn calories.  It doesn't matter when you swim, or exercise for that matter, losing weight is a matter of burning calories.  Exercising in the morning does have the advantage of helping you wake up and be more alert for the rest of the day.
Hope this helps.
