Swimsuit Cleaning Guide: Extend the Life of Your Swimwear

To clean a swimsuit:

1. Rinse immediately after use:

- As soon as possible after swimming, rinse your swimsuit thoroughly in cold water to remove salt, chlorine, and other chemicals.

2. Hand wash:

- Fill a sink or basin with lukewarm water and a mild detergent (such as a laundry detergent or swimsuit shampoo).

- Submerge the swimsuit and gently swish it around to dissolve the detergent.

- Avoid vigorous scrubbing, as this can damage the fabric.

- Let the swimsuit soak for a few minutes.

- Drain the soapy water and refill the sink with clean, lukewarm water.

- Rinse the swimsuit thoroughly until all the soap is removed.

3. Dry the swimsuit flat:

- Do not wring or twist the swimsuit, as this can damage the fabric.

- Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and lay the swimsuit flat on a towel.

- Avoid hanging the swimsuit, as this can cause it to stretch and lose its shape.

- Let the swimsuit air dry completely before storing it.

4. Machine wash (if the care label allows):

- Only machine-wash your swimsuit if the care label specifically states that it is machine-washable.

- Turn the swimsuit inside out and place it in a mesh laundry bag to protect it from damage.

- Use a gentle cycle and cold or lukewarm water.

- Avoid using bleach or fabric softener, as these can damage the swimsuit fabric.

- Remove the swimsuit from the washing machine promptly and hang it dry or lay it flat to dry.

5. Store your swimsuit properly:

- Store your swimsuit in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

- Avoid storing your swimsuit in a plastic bag, as this can trap moisture and cause the swimsuit to develop mildew.
