front and rear gears

Question
Combining front and rear gears in cycling what are the results??

Answer
Hi Stephen,

I am not absolutely sure if I understand what you are asking but here is a general overview, Basically when you have the chain on the smallest gear on the front and the largest on the back you have the easiest gear to pedal in, when you have the largest gear on the front and the smallest gear on the rear you have the hardest gear to pedal in (your fastest gear).

The bike will go much faster if you are turning the pedals at the same RPM when the bike is set in the big Chain Ring on the front and the smallest cog in the cassette on the rear.

Changing where the chain rides on either the front or the back of the bike will change the speed of the bike if you are still turning the pedals at the same cadence. Depending on the rider a cadence of 70 to 100 RPM is not unusual.

Hope this helps

Have great day,

Jerry
