Question
Greetings!

I volunteer here at AE in the motorcycle safety department. I'm also a state administrator for motorcycle safety and I've been charged with an unrelated task.

Our state legislature recently made motorized scooters (Razor, et al.) legal here. In the bill they required that the scooters have headlight and tailight if operated at night.

My question is: Are headlight kits or devices for bicycles pretty much available for purchase anywhere in the US? Are taillights available for this purpose as well? We need to understand the difficulties people will run in to when they go looking for a light kit to adapt to their 12-year-old kid's scooter.

Thanks in advance,
Pat

Answer
There are many options for headlights for bicyclists. From handlebar mounted to helmet mounted. They should be available at most good bike stores as well as online retailers. I'd suggest taking at look at places like bikenashbar.com. performancebike.com among others.
