I'm working on an engineering project on designing a multipurpose bicycle(can be used for racing,recreation...).
My question is :
What are the important qualities that we should have to creat this multipurpose bicycle?
Should the bicycle havea specific shape?  

Answer
I'm not sure there's such a thing as a multipurpose bicycle. Shape is unimportant. Riding capabilities are the most important features. It will imply constraints such as rigidity, handling, riding comfort, etc. These will be different for various needs.

Look at the diversity in the market : from Brompton folding bikes, to light racing bicycles, off-road, city bikes, dutch bicycles, ...

I don't think I can help you with that subject, it's a bit outside of my field. Good luck anyway.
