Refinishing a Sunfish Hull: Removing Old Bottom Paint & Preparing for New Coating
Question
I have an old (pre-1970) sunfish that someone used bottom paint on the hull. How do I go about taking the paint off and refinishing the fiberglass hull?
Thanks
Answer
Dear Roy,
You may not have to take all the bottom paint of your sunfish. If you wet sand with an 80 to 100 grits sand sponge until smooth you can then coat with your bottom paint.
If you go to www.boat-bottom-paint.com you can find a good Teflon Urethane in white, Navy, or a charcoal. Two coats will do the job. One court will be enough for this year and then again in a few years. If you find some deep scratches in your bottom ask for some glazing compound along with your order.
Best of Luck
