Trim tabs, usually operated hydraulically, permit a boat to be balanced and level while underway at a planing speed. They can compensate for uneven weight distribution of fuel, fresh & waste water, passengers and equipment, and provide greater cruising efficiency, particularly on cabin cruiser models. I wouldn't recommend them for small pleasure craft.
