Optimize Engine Tilt for Maximum Speed on a Bayliner Capri 16'
Question
I have a 1990 bayliner capri 16', and a 50 hp force engine. where should i position the engine tilt to have the fastest top speed. the boat does not have power tilt and trim so i use a lock pin on the mount please help this boat is very slow on the water.
Answer
Hi there
A properly tilted engine will keep the bow down when on a plane. To gain speed, you need to check the pitch and diamenter of the propeller being used. Consult a local marina for the recommended prop for your boat. Also, make sure the cavitation plate just above the lower gear housing is flush or in line with the bottom of your boat, otherwise, the shaft may be either too long or too short.
