I/O stalling during idle

2016/7/15 18:32:49

Question
I have a Volvo 5.0L V8 (Holley 2bbl)that stalls after about 1 or 2 minutes at idle speed or neutral. It does start back up and will idle again for 1-2 minutes then die. I have changed the canister fuel filter and cleaned the filter screen at the carb. I have also added IsoHeet water remover to the last couple tanks of gas thinking there was water in the fuel. I now don't think there is. There didn't seem to be any in the old fuel filter. I also adjusted the idle adjustment screws on either side of the carb. They seemed to be set correctly. Any suggesstions?

Answer
Hi Mike...Thanks for selecting the undersigned to reply to your question. Unfortunately, you didn't mention the yr. of the engine.

While I'm not a mechanic but, have you ruled out any problems with the fuel pump or the automatic choke? Is the fuel line free of obstructions and tightly secured? Have you tested the coil and spark plug wires?

If all else fails, best you consult a qualified and reliable marine mechanic to troubleshoot and resolve the symptoms.
