Answer
Strapping a saddle on a horse's back and putting a piece of metal in its mouth for steering is cruel. Especially when an overweight human gets on its back and rides it for hours. Most non race horse owners do not shoe their horses properly or feed properly. Race horses are better taken care of than most cats and dogs. More cats and dogs are slaughtered around the world than horses. Race horses are cared for and handled by professionals everyday. These horses are bathed groomed and loved on by people who love horses.

Horse slaughter is illegal in the United States. I do not know why people still think slaughter occurs in the US. In fact, most races horses are placed in loving homes and there are many agencies across America who find homes for retired horses.

The use of drugs in horse racing is illegal. Horses are tested after each race for illegal drug use. The only medications allowed are the ones a licensed veterinarian administer when a horse is sick like they would at a farm.

All equine sports, not just race horses, have their share of injuries and deaths. The only reason horse racing gets the publicity is becaused it is televised. There is a show on Animal Planet which finally exposes animal cruelty in our own neighbourhoods. I have never seen a race horse on that show.

There are cruel people that do cruel things to animals and there are the least amount of those people training race horses. People who work with these impressive horses, do it because they love horses. There are a few bad actors that we try to get rid of. Unfortunately there are bad people in this world and all we can hope for is more of those people get caught and punished.
