Question
QUESTION: How would I find out about a thoroughbred horse born in 1953.  The horse I am looking fo is Golden lou.  I would like to find a photo and any information regrding this horse. Any help would be benificial.

ANSWER: Hi Dan,
All countries that race thoroughbreds has a national register called the Stub Book. This lists the breeding and the history of each thoroughbred. There are web sites also that list every thorougbreds racing career. As I do not know what country you are in I cant refer you to a particular website. Ring a local racing club and ask them to direct you to the national Thoroughbred Association in your country.
I hope this helps,
Don Boddie

QUESTION:   Thank you so much for your answer/response. I am located in the United States of America and have tried several thoroughbred sites including the Jockey Club, blood horse, and a few others but most stop keeping records on horses before 1998.  The horse I am looking for is on several sites but only is listed in blood lines of its pedigree. I can not find a contact person /owner or a picture or copy of its registration papers.  If I can find where the horse was born or where it was raced, hopefully it can lead to a photo. I have found a picture of the sire (dad) to the horse I am looking for but not its offspring.  Is there anyway to find local town clubs or associations regarding history or track records of horses?  Since this horse probably is not a well known stallion I realize that it will be harder to find but I am up for the challenge.   Once again the horse I am looking for is Golden Lou a thoroughbred born in 1953.

ANSWER: Hi Dan,
I must be more careful when doing a spell check after writing answers. Stub Book should be Stud Book!!
This will be a bit of a mission but never mind I am sure we can find the answers you need.
If you have a pic of the stallion then you probably know his name. That narrows the field. Where did he stand at stud? Do you know his dams' name?
What other progeny did he have?
Give me the sites he is listed on and let me see if that helps me.
I am sure there must be a site like www.arion.co.nz which is a very useful site for tracking NZ horses.
My e-mail is [email protected] if you would like to contact me directly or Doggsie is my skype address.
Good luck

QUESTION: Hello, and thank you once again for your response.  I am looking for a horse that was born in the united states of America. the horse was born in 1953.  his dams name is Blended Gold and his sires name is Double Jay.  Golden Lou is is the horse i am looking for and he is listed on the Thoroughbred database web site as well as Blood horse.com. but i can not find a photo or racing history of him.  i am not sure where his sire double jay stood at stud. i understand this will take some time but i am willing to take any suggestions. most of Golden lou's pedigree is on the thoroughbred database web site is that helps with family names.

Answer
Hi Dan,
I expect you have a particulaereason for searching out this horses' history and maybe the answer is a lot closer to you than you realise.
You say the sire is registered in the thoroughbred register so I assume the owner or stud are also mentioned. If you can find the owner you may get a lead on the son Golden Lou.
Contact some racing clubs and ask for a lead to the official photographers who may have photographed your horse during his racing career. Usually these photos are kept for a long time. Most are now copied to disck or DVD.
Good luck.
Don
