Thoroughbred Horse with Bone Chip: Evaluating Recovery & Value
Question
I have a chance to purchase a thoroughbred horse that has a bone chip. It is a horse will come from the rescue mission stables. The horse is about 3 - 4 years old. My question is that my 10 year old daughter has fallen in love with this horse and really wants it for her own. I am willing to pay $1000.00 for this horse. I am just waiting for our local vet to take some x-rays to see how bad his leg is. Can a horse recover from a chipped bone and be able to ride trails and jump over low fences?
Answer
hi yes a race horse can recover form a bone chip as long as it is not caused a lot of internal damage in the knee joint. your vet will be able to tell you as soon as he see's the x-rays. i have had plenty of race horses that i have placed with people looking for a riding horse and as long as your vet ok's the leg, you should be fine.. hope that helps you thanks ED HESS
