Question
Would perfer not to call you, if you have advice please send via email.  I'm a concerned parent and would appreciate any/all advice that you have to offer.

Diane Duffy

Answer
Hi Diane
It is two things. The first is the diet and when she eats before the race. That egg and cheese on a english muffin with wheat thins was the culprit, and you have to allow 31/2 to 4hrs before race. You don't want to eat any heavy protein sources.Second thing is toward the end of the race with food not properly digested. The factors probably responsible include:decreased blood flow to the intestine and retention of food in the stomach during running;build up of acid and metabolic products in the blood;and over activity of the vagus and sympathic nervous systems which stimulates the vomiting center. No serious consequence for her.She just tried to squease a few more seconds in the closing 75 meters. If you have other questions just get in touch.

All the best

John
