iliac crest pain when running

2016/7/22 10:09:14

Question
i am a passionate runner who has been running girls XC, indoor track, and outdoor track for the varsity since my freshman year. i am now in my 2nd year of highschool and i am currently in my cross country season. i have been experiencing Sharp pain in the upper half of my hip. I believe in the iliac crest. I feel the pain the most after running a 5K race and a fast pace. The pain is only most effecting after I run. It feels bruised and hurts to my touch. I don抰 know what to do. Can you help me?

Thank you.

Answer
Alex,

I'll need just a bit more information from you.  Does it hurt when you lift your knee in the air like you're marching?  How about if you lift your leg straight out to the side?  Are there any movements that irritate it other than running?  I'm inclined to say that it may be an iliacus strain, although I would like more information before I go there.  Please try to pin point the exact location and movements that irritate it just a little more.

Thanks, Larry
