stomache ache when running

2016/7/22 10:10:43

Question
My son recently started running xc in high school.  He reports having "stomach aches" at times, during the end of his run/workout (these stomach aches are actually in the lower stomach or bowel area).  We cant seem to find a pattern between the intensity of the run/workout and the stomach aches, or between the type of food that he has eaten that day.  Any ideas or suggestions?

Answer
Hi Tammy
Running places a tremendous strain on the abs and surounding area and especialy at the end of a run as the runner is increasing the pace considerably.I remember those days myself just starting back up.I would double over sometimes it hurt so much.I don't no what kind of shape he is in or was leading up to this, but i would reccomend start with a good ab program and work hard at it.This should help a lot.Just starting out the body will adapt over time to a lot of little situations. He should allow about 4 hours after he eats and watch protein sources such as milk meat products. If you have other questions just get in touch Tammy.Let me know how it goes.

All the best

John
