pain & stiffens on the side of knee.

Question
Greeting Doc ,
I'm 25 years old , male dancer. i have stiffness and minute pain on the right side of my right knee.ever since i discovered it i quit running.its been 2 months and  i could still feel the morning stiffness and pain.i don't know exactly where the pain is coming from.when i touch the area around my knee i sense no pain it seems to be alright but when i sit for long time and then try to stand i feel stiffness and pain.i hear a pop sound when i sit. This thing is really making me apprehensive. I've consulted a doctor he said it's just because of stress and he prescribe me a gel and pain killers.i'm done with the course and still the problem persists.
i was told to take multi vitamin tablets by my coach.is it good to take those tablets daily? am i having any tear in my muscle, what kind a condition is it?
thank you.

Answer
Dear Sir,

This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist, Elmhurst Podiatrist & West Loop Podiatrist says.......
For your knee pain...Sounds like tendonitis of on of the tendons that run across the knee
Treatment-
Do gentle warm-ups by moving the knee in different directions. Try to stretch as much as possible-after the warm-up. Do not force-but gently push to increase movement. Gentle motion helps increase lubrication-while lack of movement decreases lubrication of the joint fluid. The vitamins will not make a difference. Forget the gel & pain killers-wear a knee brace & give the knee a chance to quiet down. Rest it for 2 weeks. If not better-go seek a second opinion-not a guess.
Do PRICE
Protect-Wear a knee wrap and limit the movements that aggravate it.
Rest-Speaks for itself-rest it.
Ice- As much as possible for the first few days & then daily for 45 minutes.
Compress-Ace wrap  or knee sleeve
Elevate-Will help if it throbs or swells.
Good Luck!
