distance running nausea

Question
QUESTION: Hi there

I live / run in South Africa, and am concentrating on 42km distance and the Comrades Marathon (89km)  I finished the Comrades in 2010 in 11h42:06, but with severe nausea from abt 55km mark.  Yesterday failed to finish, having bailed at 52km mark with nauseau / vo,iting.  This year for the first time had nausea after a 42km race as well.

Tried running on GU and water, with occasional Pepsi drinks. Need to kill off the nausea - causing me major problems - pls help...

Regards
Jeremy

ANSWER: Did you eat anyhthing besides goo, maybe boiled potatoes, with salt, or any sugary snacks, m&ms, gummies, etc? And what kind of GU are you using, it clearly looks like you are OK with the distance, but the GU is giving you GI and stomach problems, what kind of GU do you use?

QUESTION: Hi Niok

Tks for the reply - appreciated.  I have had the nausea problems when drinking Coke/Water and eating other foods as well.  I tried the GU thinking it might be better, being a lower-GI / slower-release nutirent system.  Have had some feedback from another contact as well, who suggested that I change from GU every hour, to GU every 45mins - apparently it might be that I am eating GU too infrequently.  Is 32GI gel better than GU in your expereience- heard so from club member buddy?

Look fwd to your input soon

Regards
Jeremy

Answer
it seems that your body just doesn't want to accept that type of food for some reason. Have you tried the 32GI yet, how does that work for you? If not, I'd try that solution and see what it does for you, i can do a bit more research to see what else is out there that has a lower GI.
