my dad needs to lose weight.

Question
My dad is 52, 5'8", 190 lbs, and has heart problems. He hates every type of
exercise and eats a lot (he especially likes fatty and sugary foods). I'd like to
know a healthy amount of running/walking he would be able to do. I don't
want him to overwork because he has heart problems, but knowing him, he'll
make excuses. Today, I got him to walk/jog a half mile on the treadmill for
10 mins (he was fluctuating between 2 mph-4 mph) and he was having a
hard time doing even that. He's a driver, so his shifts are unpredictable and
his mealtimes are not set in stone. When he's not working, he's either
sleeping, eating, or watching tv. Do you have any dieting/fitness tips?

Answer
Hi Ashley
Getting back in shape losing weight should be a consistent daily process of a diet change and as you are getting him to do is a gradual walk jog program building up over time and it does not matter how fast.He should feel comfortable at all times. As far as diet goes there is no magic diet..Just good clean burning foods and i'm sure he knows what not to eat.Fruits vegies salads chicken beans no beef oatmeal for breakfast etc.It really is that simple, but unless he is willing to bite the bullet and turn the corner and get real serious about getting healthy things won't change.I would be very happy to discuss this with you and your dad over the phone here in albuquerque NM any time you wish from 6am on.505 271 5909 to get even more clarity on whats needed to be successful for the long haul Ashley.

All the best

John
