H.I.I.T. running

Question
John
I keep reading about this as an effective way to burn fat. However, is it appropriate for a guy like me in his early 50's?
My regular jogs and biking sessions are having no effective except for maintaning the staus quo. I would like to drop at mininumum ten pounds of visceral fat that my doctor is concerned about-I already have elevated blood pressure.
Getting back to the HIIT, I am thinking it is not unlike hockey where you go extremely hard for a couple minutes then sit on the bench and rest for about five, repeating this sequence throughout the game. I played rec. up a couple years and I always felt I had burned off fat and elevated my metabolism after a game.I have gained 10 pounds since then with no increase in food or decrease in activity.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Answer
Hi Ernie
The answer is yes as long as you approach it with a gradual approach and work into it as your body adapts. If you attack it that is when you could have some problems especially with your blood pressure..H.I.I.T.Is basically just interval training with a variety of exercises such as your Hockey days. You can do the same thing with your biking and running if that is what you really enjoy. But neither will work unless you get squeaky clean and get your diet under control. If you have any questions just get in touch Ernie.

All the best

John
