Pain in legs

Question
Hi, I have been running since July of 2008 and I ran many 5ks, 10ks and one half Marathon(May 2009). After half marathon, I couldn't run as often as I wanted to because of lack of time. I only ran twice a week as oppose to 6 times a week.  Since September end, I picked up again and have been running 5 times a week.  The problem is that after running a mile or so, I get pain in both of my legs below knees. The pain is muscular, nothing to do with bones or joints. My calves hurt and I feel it in the front part of both legs too.  I have to stop for a couple of mins to feel ok.  I can't run more than 5K.  This is weird because I never had this problem even when I started running for the first time in July 2008.  Although my body weight in the normal range, I put on 3-4 pounds between may and september 2009.  I don't know whats going on.  I am totally hydrated when I start to run.  Please help.  Sorry for the long question.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Prakhar
It appears to be based on your description patellar tendonitis if it is just about 1 inch below kneecap or shin splints if it is about 6 inches below the knee cap to the right or left if left leg. Both adapt over time, but ice as often as you can to reduce inflammation and take 500mg vit c
with 3 meals a day.If you have further questions just get in touch.

All the best

John
