jogging and thigh muscle

Question
QUESTION: Hello,

I would like to know whether jogging can build the thigh and if so, how to go about it.

Thanks.

Sincerely

James

ANSWER: Jogging alone won't build any muscle in the thigh, it will merely adapt to the conditions and size it needs to be at for running if its done consistently enough.

Size is developed mainly through strength training exercises, which can be done with various methods of bodyweight, dumbbell, barbell, kettlebells, and even resistance bands.

QUESTION: Hello Rick

Thanks for your answer.

What about jogging on a slope/hill?

Thanks again. Reply is very much appreciated.

Regards,

James

Answer
It won't do much to run up a hill to build leg muscle, you'll just gain the strength you need to specifically run faster and more powerful up that hill.  There hasn't been any research or documentation of hill running for muscle mass.  Hill running/sprints has been shown to increase Growth Hormone and IGF hormones in the body, which aids with the process of burning fat for metabolism needs.  This would help you reduce body fat for your body, which would help increase the likelihood of your muscles looking more toned in appearance, but I'd say it would have to be in conjunction with a traditional strength training regimen, too.
