Pain in legs when running

Question
Hey thanks alot for answering my question but I forgot to mention that I have recently bought new running shoes and that that leg pain started with those shoes. I switeched to the old shoes to see if the pain would go away ( and I like my old ones more anyway, but as you know if hasn't. So I don't think its the shoes. Adn my knees aren't 100% but they are better, would you still say that all I should do is rest for a little bit? Thanks

-----Question-----
Hi my question is what should I do about my lower leg pain that I get when I run? Lately the area around th efront of my ankles up to the frotn of the calves has really hurt. Its a sharp burning sensation that starts up like 4 min into my run. This has only started recently and it goes away immediately after I stop running. Is this related to runner's knee since I've been having some problems with that and what can I do about it? Thanks alot

Genna,

How old are your shoes? Often times, shin pain is attributed to overworn shoes. The shock absorbtion is gone and the pounding stresses the shins. The muscles along the shinbone connect at the ankle. If it isn't your shoes, it could be that you are compensating for your knee. When the body compensates for one area, another often starts to hurt as your running changes to an unnatural form. Ice is always good. If you can afford to, take a few days off and see what happens. Since it goes away when you are done running, I think it may be ythe shoes.

Answer
Genna,

Hope you had a good holiday...I was out of town for a week. If it hurts with either pair, then I would recommend taking a little time off. It is possible to injure your legs and not realize it at the time. Continue to stretch and ice, even take an anti-inflammatory for a few days. Then start back slowly and see how it is.
