opening a wall climbing club

Question
I'm a 25 years old male, i'm from Lebanon a small country located in Asia. I have a very small experience in wall climbing due to a summer job i did once where i worked in helping people to climb a small artificial wall and doing the security stuff. i thought now of opening a wall climbing club but the problem is that i don't have an idea of how much it may cost me to buy a wall and the stuff, and if i need special engineers to build them, and if it is expensive to me to do in case i own the ground. do u think u can give me a general information about that? i just need some prices about the walls and the materials if it's possible, i need to know if it's such expensive to me. Thank you

Answer
Samir,
Sorry about the late response, I have been out of town for two weeks.
I have built small climbing walls with 3/4" outdoor plywood and 2x4's.  It is very cheap and easy to do yourself, and probably only suitable for using yourself.  If you want to open a club and have other people come and climb on your wall, you will need something a little more solid.
When I worked at a newly formed climbing gym, I was able to inspect the construction from the ground up.  The gym used steel square pipe for the framework and bolted the wood sheets in place. Then the wood facing was covered with a "grippy" paint and/or concrete to give it texture and shape.  The poor man's version of that is to put sand in the paint you use, but be aware it will wear off more rapidly than a professional grip paint like 'Griptex'.
The Metolius company is a good place to find information on constructing walls as well as getting prices for climbing holds and t-nuts and such.  I am sure they have a web site.
Good Luck.
Frank
