How to lower my erg score

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I am 15 years old, 130 pounds, have a 7:40 2k, and I have had 3 months of rowing experience.  I ran cross country so my cardio is pretty good but I wanna lower my erg score.  I heard that lifting weights will make you heavier and give you a better erg score but I dont know any good programs.  Could you let me know how to lower it.
Thanks

ANSWER: Dominic,
If you are lifting weights, and don't have any extra body fat that won't do anything, so I would try gaining 20 pounds, and that will still keep you very safely in the lightweight range.  I don't know where you live so I can't really tell you where to lift weights. I think that since you are so new you also might be able to push your self harder, because lots of beginners have a big mental barrier. Also since you are new, your time will drop ALOT, 3 months is is nothing. To overcome the mental barrier, I would do 5 1500 meter erg pieces at maybe your 2k goal plus 2 splits, and other such sprint workouts.
Good Luck,
Annie B

QUESTION: Will erging help me gain weight too?  Is there something else you advise that will help me gain weight?  Also, how often should I be working out?(Like how many days a week?)

Answer
Dominic,
Yes, erging will help you gain muscle, but you need fats for the body to turn into muscle. I would recommend working out 6 days a week for a couple hours, doing things varying from intense pressure to steady. I don't really know what to tell you for how to gain weight, eat lots of white breads and good carbs, but don't just eat crap because that's not the right kind of weight.
GOOD LUCK!
Annie
