Lightweight Male College Recruit 2k

Question
Hi, so I'm a male rower, first year-second season, 16 years old, 160 lbs, 5'10'' and I was wondering what time a light weight needs for his 2k to be recruited by any college hands down. Also what would this golden time be for a heavy weight? In the three weeks since crew season ended, I dropped my 2k time 10.7 seconds down to a 6:49.3. Thanks for the help!!

Answer
    Hi!
While I mainly specialize in girl's rowing I'll take a stab!
I think 6:49 is AMAZING for a lightweight male. You should keep doing what you're doing, and to be very solid I would shoot for sub 7:35! You are definitely on the right track, but no matter how strong you're going to need good grades and SAT score. Golden high school time? Well at my high school club breaking 6 for heavyweights was the best that ever happened, but I would say 6:20/6:25 to be at least slightly realistic. A problem for you might be your weight, because being near 160 at your young age isn't a thrilling sign, and you may not be able to become much stronger if you are borderline overweight. However, I am assuming you're only a sophomore and your 2k can possibly drop enough for you to be recruited for heavyweight crew!
Best wishes!
Annie
