I just wanted to know if it would be possible to hook up a scuba mask to a 300o psi 48cu paintball tank to breath for a short time underwater

There are a lot of things to consider, from the quality of the air, the type of compressor (fit for breathing?) to the fitting on the cylinder.

By 'scuba mask,' what you mean is a regulator, which comes in two stages.

Without knowing what kind of cylinder you intend to use (I'm not familiar with what is used for paintball guns) it's hard (and unwise) for me to answer this question.
