Belgium Browning 1969/salt wood issues

Question

I'm pretty sure I have an original salt wood stock .30-06 handed down to me by my recently deceased father-in law. It hasn't been shot in years and has some moderate rust at and below the stock line. I have decided to get it re-blued and replace the stock. Problem is, I can't even break the butt plate screws loose, and the rosettes on the sides of the stock are nearly permanently rust welded in place.
1. Is there a special tool for the rosettes? Two hole of some sort?
2. Any help with the butt plate other than maybe Mr. Spock's phaser, set to stun?
If I am unable to remove he screws/rosettes, can they be replaced? Any info would help. Thanks!

Answer
There is a special tool to remove the recoil lug from the stock. I don't know if they are readily available. You might contact MidwayUSA.com. As far as the butt plate screws. Chances are that if you try to remove them the screws will break. You will most likely have to drill them out or at least drill the tops of the screws out to get the butt plate off. If the lugs are rusted as bad as you describe, they probably are not worth or able to save as the metal will be rusted together on the inside. You do not need to remove them to remove the stock. The two bolts on the bottom of the floor plate/trigger guard assembly is the only thing you will need to remove. Salt wood has ruined a lot of wonderful Brownings. You can call me at 417-830-5588 before 9 p.m. cst and I will try to help you more.
