Question
i have a side by side 12 gauge shotgun. gun is a Vulcan, serial number 410720. can I shoot standard shotgun shells.have heard most hammered side by sides were made with Damascus metal and were unsafe to shoot modern shells out of. thanks for any imput you may have.

Answer
Hi,
Vulcan was trade name of H. D. Folsom. of New York City.
It was either made by Crescent Arms of Norwich Ct or made imported from Belgium.
It could have either fluid steel barrels (safe with standard vel Ammo) or Damascus Twist steel (unsafe) any gunsmith or gun dealer can tell which it is by looking at it. Damascus was intended for low pressure black powder shells only.
