Restoring a Rifle

2016/7/22 9:06:09

Question
Christopher.

Greetings from Texas.

I'm restoring a Winchester, Model 270, .22 cal., pump, rifle.  My first attempt at bluing the rifle barrel was successful.  However, after bringing the breach area down to bare metal, I find the bluing does not affect the metal.

I suspect that area of the rifle must be stainless steel.  The firing mechanism that is inserted up and into the breach area appears to be painted with a special type of paint.  I believe this paint was also used on the breach area.  It appears to have a texture to it that is similar to plastic.

Can you tell me the type of paint I need to refinish the breach area, (between the barrel and the stock), of the weapon?

Thanks in advance,
George

Answer
Hello George,

The process you are probably referring to is called "Tenifer", the same look and finish as a Glock's slide. You should look up some of the details or contact brownells for information on what is needed to complete this process. I am just a hobbyist at gunsmithing and have never attempted the process myself.

Chris
