Slugs in a full choke shotgun?

2016/7/22 9:07:13

Question
I own a New England Firearms single shot 10ga shotgun with a full choke.  I turkey hunt with it and it is in excellent shape.  I bought some 10ga slugs, but before I shoot them, I want assurance that it is okay since it has a full choke.  Should I be concerned?

Answer
I do not recommend using a full choke with a slug.  Many people say that it is OK to fire a riifled slug (i.e. Foster style) with a full choke (but not extra-full or Turkey), but accuracy will be poor.

It's best to use an improved cylinder choke for slugs.

Hope this helps!
