Rick, I am trying to find out where to go to look up a gun's history. It doesn't seem like any of the "experts" want to delve into this topic. Do you know what would be a good place to start. The handgun in question is a Colt, says US Army 1901 on the butt. I don't want to waste your time with more detail. It is a family heirloom. Thank you in advance if you have any suggestions for how to research this item. Sandra

Is it a revolver or auto? Are you sure it is not 1911? I need more info to try and help. Here is a link to a revolver to see if it looks like yours?
