Question

357 mag
My friend has a S&W 357 revolver.  Stamped under cylinder is mod 58-1.  Everything we read says this should be a 41 mag but this gun is definitely a 357, serial # ade4663. Has no pin, flush cylinder, fixed sites and hammer but only works thru trigger, can't cock with hammer.

Answer
Gary,

I took some extra time to do a fair amount of research for you but could not find anything referencing an S&W "mod 58-1" in .357 Magnum. Instead it seems that your revolver is a "Model 581" (without the dash) which was also known as the "Distinguished Service Magnum". You will find more information about it along with the current value scale in the blue book at the following site:

https://store.bluebookinc.com/InstantAccess/Model.aspx?product=5&id=1589

Also, you might find this review of the same gun very interesting:

And this is a general search link if you need more information:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=smith+wesson+%22Model+581%22

Hope this helps.

Bob
