military rifle

2016/7/22 9:12:48

Question
Hello,
I am inheriting what my grandfather identified as a "military weapon" from the Korean war/Vietnam war era.  If this is an automatic rifle, will I have to get a class 3 license before I can legally own it?

Answer
Nick,

It is unlikely that it is a 'full auto' rifle, but if it is, you will need a class 3 license before you can take possession of it.  Do you know if your grandfather had class 3 paperwork?  The 'license' is actually a transfer tax.  It must be paid each time the firearm is transferred.  I'd contact a class 3 dealer in your are to help you navigate the paperwork process if it proves necessary.

Hope this helps,

Doug
